I was driving home late at night when my car's headlights illuminated something strange next to an empty, muddy road. At first, I thought it was an abandoned wheelchair, half-hidden by the rain and mud. But when I slowed down, my hands froze on the steering wheel. The wheelchair was not empty. A very old woman was sitting in it, slumped to one side, soaked from head to toe, with her gray hair stuck to her pale face and her thin hands hanging limply from the armrests. There were no houses nearby. No parked cars. No bag. No blanket. No phone. No one asking for help. Just her, alone in the middle of the darkness, as if someone had left her there and disappeared. I ran toward her shouting: "Ma'am, can you hear me?" But she didn't answer. Her skin was freezing, her lips almost blue, and her breathing was so weak that I had to get extremely close to make sure she was still alive. I wrapped my jacket around her trembling body, called emergency services, and begged her to hold on. At the hospital, the doctors said she was suffering from dangerous hypothermia, was severely dehydrated, and appeared to have been given some type of sedative. Nobody knew who she was. Nobody knew how long she had been sitting beside that road. The police asked me if I had seen anyone nearby, but the only thing I had seen was the wheelchair, the rain, and her motionless body. Then, near dawn, she finally opened her eyes. The nurse asked her gently what her name was. The old woman whispered her name. And the officers froze. She had been missing for months. But that wasn't what left everyone in silence. When they asked her how she had ended up beside that road, her eyes filled with tears, and she began to tell a story so terrifying that no one in the room was able to move. I know you want to know the rest of the story, because what happened next is completely unexpected. But unfortunately, Facebook doesn’t support long posts. "I didn’t know how long I was there, but I remember feeling a sense of peace. I followed that voice, drawn deeper into the woods until there was no escape. That was the last I remembered. When I came to, I was in that chair, beside the road, cold and abandoned."
As the old woman recalled her chilling experience, the room fell silent, each person present grappling with the eerie tale that had just unraveled. Investigators knew that while her physical recovery was paramount, understanding the psychological depth of what had transpired was equally essential. They began to formulate a plan not only to protect the townsfolk but also to unearth the mysteries that lurked within the woods adjoining the town—a seemingly innocuous expanse of lumber and foliage that now appeared to harbor something far darker than anyone had comprehended.
A few hours later, in the dimly lit conference room of the local police department, a team of officers gathered around a map, pinpointing the area where the old woman had last been seen. The dark woods were etched on paper, but they saw more than just a woodland area; they envisioned a maze filled with shadows and secrets.
"The patient mentioned a voice, something that drew her in," began Officer Mitchell, the lead investigator. "Is it possible someone has been observing people from the woods, preying on those who wander too close? We need to utilize local volunteers for a search party, but we must tread carefully. We don't want to put anyone else at risk."
The idea of sending volunteers into potentially dangerous territory sparked immediate concern. Every officer in the room was touched by the old woman’s plight; after all, vulnerability was a human condition. Yet, there stood a risk in the tales of the woods—a risk that was rapidly becoming unnerving for all involved.
